I get asked about commissions constantly. How does it work? What do you need from me? What's the process?
So I figured I'd write it all out in one place.
What I commission
My commissions fall into a few specific categories — and each one works a little differently.
Custom Skulls — These are band-based, pop culture, and TV show pieces. Think: a skull that tells the story of a band and why you love them. There's a list of pre-approved themes on the commissions page. Got a different idea? Shoot us an email — if the concept inspires Nan, she'll take it on.
Custom Guitars — Same process as skulls: pop culture themes, band-inspired concepts, music-driven showpieces. These are higher-priced statement pieces and they are absolutely stunning. Pre-approved themes are listed; email us if you have something else in mind.
Custom Bali Hai Mugs — Same idea. Pre-approved themes on the page, email for anything outside of that. Nan will let you know if she's feeling it.
Large Format Canvas Paintings — These are original paintings inspired by your company's story. Inclusion pieces, statement walls, murals, corporate commissions. If you want original art that says something specific about who your company is and what it stands for, this is the category.
What Nan needs from you
Here's what actually matters: the theme, and why it's important to you.
You're coming to Nan for her style and her vision — she doesn't need you to design it. What she needs is to understand what this piece means. What's the story? Why this subject? What does it represent to you?
If you're commissioning a skull, guitar, or other pop culture piece — a Clash skull, say, or a guitar tribute to a band you've loved for 20 years — tell her your favorite songs. Your favorite lyrics. The moment that made you fall for that band. That's the fuel.

Pricing
The best way to get a sense of pricing is to look at similar pieces in the shop. A custom commission is made for you, from scratch, by hand — Nan is setting aside time in her schedule specifically for your piece.
Timeline
Most commissions take 4–8 weeks from payment to delivery. The schedule fills up — especially around the holidays and summer — so the earlier you reach out, the better.
